This case is for DB using Microsoft SQL Server that is put in PocketPC. The crashes of the application can damage the DB (in case the application crash with the DB open). User will realize the DB is corrupt when he try to open the application again and the application crash in the log in window. The message will be ‘Unspecified error \program files\PATH\DB.sdf’ this file is the DB and the application can’t open.
This error is dangerous, about 15% of the DB with this problem is unrecoverable. To fix this error we connect the PocketPC to the server via ActiveSync. Once is connected we open SQL Server and try to open the DB in the HHU. SQL Server will show us three different messages .
1. This file you’re trying to open is not a correct file format or the DB is corrupt. Do you like to fix it?
That’s good  means we can fix the DB. After clicking ‘yes’ in seconds SQL manage to open the DB. Now we can close SQL, disconnect the HHU from the PC and open the application again.
2. The file can not be open SQL has problems with the install components of NET CF and/or SQL mobile …
Also we can recover the DB in this case, but not from the HHU. We should copy the DB in the PC. Once we have in the PC we follow the same procedure. After fixing we’ll copy again to the HHU. I’m not sure if after this we can open the application again. If can not, we should reinstall all the modules again as we did in case b.
3. Unspecified error.
This error is the unrecoverable 15% by now.

For you who are working with multiple language characters in you computer, there are the need to shift the keyboard input from one language to another. For Example: You are writing the report on both Arabic and English language, then you will be often to shift the keyboard inputs while doing the report.

The keyboard input language is usually identified in the task bar. You can see EN that means English or AR that means Arabic and many more abbreviations. Once you clicked on the abbreviations, windows will show you the available language input that are already installed. Thus, every time you wan to change the input language from one to another, you should click on that icon.

There is a shortcut to change from one input language to another. This is Alt+Shift. This key press combination will shift the input key language to next available on your windows. If you have installed input key language AR EN FR (Arabic, English, and France). Then, when current input is AR, by the time you press Alt+Shift, it will change the input language into EN. Pressing one more time Alt+Shift will change the input language into FR. Try it yourself.

In the task of using Excel, it is common that you would like to copy and paste the data from excel into other MS office softwares like Word or Power Point. You can usually do direct copy past without problem. Until, you realize that the table in Excel is big enough that when you paste it in Word or Power Point, the table excess the margin available.

This could be a stressful process trying to reduce the size of table until it fits to the margin in your word or power point. One thing to solve this problem is to copy your table as an image. There are several ways to copy your table as a picture and paste it:

Do the print screen and paste it first in MS paint. Then select the table that you want to copy and press Ctrl+C (copy). After that you can paste it.

Copy the table in Excel, then go to Word or Power Point, select Paste Special. After that you can choose paste as image.

Select the table in Excel, then while holding the SHIFT key, click on EDIT menu. It will show an additional sub-menu “Copy Picture”. This “Copy Picture” sub-menu only available when you hold the SHIFT key while clicking on EDIT menu. Try it. After copy the image, then you can paste it wherever you want.

I hope this tips can help you working with MS Office softwares.

Even both are Microsoft products, recent testing by me shows that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 does not work properly with Microsoft Windows Vista. I got a new laptop with Microsoft Windows Vista installed. During the installation of SQL Server 2005 into my laptop, I got a error message that Windows Vista is compatible with newer version of SQL Server 2005.

In conclusion, companies or developer should be prepared with newer version of SQL Server if you want to keep Windows Vista running as operating system in your machines.
